Staying Connected Print E-mail

Responsibility for our agencies’ technology infrastructure is a major part of my job. During the current hurricane season we had a 32-hour period when everything at our home office was down and out of my hands. We had staff members with major damage to their homes and roads closed off by fallen trees and flooding. I was completely at the mercy of our utility company, communication providers, and Hurricane Irene, but we managed to stay connected. Not the computers or the email, but the people.

This is something I believe is over looked in both personal and professional relationships. Understanding that being connected is more than sending emails with job updates or wishing someone a happy birthday on Facebook. We had just setup and tested a voice alert system that allowed me to record and broadcast messages to all staff members. The feedback was amazing. Hearing a familiar voice with information on what was happening really placed everything at ease and left no doubt about the state of business.

In spite of all my technology there was nothing more powerful than hearing a trusted voice. This is also a major part of the business strategy at Lewis Advertising. You do not stay in business 43 years and not understand the power of this type of connection. A connection our agency has with its staff, partners, and clients. It is something special.
