Public health gains momentum. Areas of North Carolina fall within the Stroke Belt where an unacceptable percentage of the population is at high risk of developing heart disease as well as strokes. A need was identified to educate the population and move them toward adoption of a healthier lifestyle. In order to base subsequent campaigns on a solid grounding in success analytics, a benchmark awareness study was initiated prior to the launch of the campaign. Two rounds of follow-up research conducted at one-year intervals helped determine impact on awareness of the relatively simple changes that promote a healthier lifestyle. This research proved the campaign’s success through: - A strong awareness of the Start With Your Heart brand and recall of critical campaign messages
- Increased knowledge of the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity
- An increased commitment to implementing lifestyle changes
